Day 14, Save On Foods & Pricesmart are New Seafood Champion

Greenpeace's website had a flaw...linking to 2011 information when they had new 2012 rankings.

Behold, the new champion is:

"Over Weight EE Huh?" Never heard of 'em.

Apparently, they include Save-On-Foods, PriceSmart, Cooper’s Foods, Urban Fare and Bulkley Valley Wholesale. So I have shopped at some of them, and will perhaps try to more often now.

Here are the rest of the 2012 rankings.

This warrants a letter not only to Overwaitea, but also an e-mail to GP letting them know they should update their site.

The Letter
To: Overwaitea Foods Limited

As a customer of your stores, I was incredibly pleased and proud to see that you placed first on Greenpeace's sustainable seafood rankings.

Your clear sustainable seafood policy is thorough and has a reasonable deadline. I'm happy that you are educating customers on Redlist species and alternatives, and discontinued open net-pen farmed salmon, and most Alaska pollock.

I'm excited to see Overwaitea take some of the final steps, such as pushing your suppliers to provide information on product labels regarding where and how fish were caught/farmed.

The letters sent to Co-op and Loblaw about seafood were still fairly accurate about what they need to work on, luckily. I'll still go back and update the posts to reflect these changes, as well as include some dissenting info. about catch shares.
